San Jose City Hall Information.
- Project was approved by voters (Measure I) in 1996.
- Consolidates all city offices into one building.
- 439 stairs from the parking level to the 18th floor.
- 77 contractors and subcontractors worked on the project.
- The building provides room for approximately 1,950 employees.
- The City Council Chambers comprises 7,000 square feet and 330 seats.
- Site includes 2.5 acres of "programmable" space on the plaza for public events.
- Constructed with 14.4 million pounds of structural steel and 26,000 cubic yards of concrete.
- Constructed using 150,000 structural bolts.
- The building includes 4,365 light fixtures and 2,223 fire alarms.
- The Rotunda dome is composed of 1,032 pieces of glass.
- The City of San José expects to save $189 million over the next 50 years by consolidating city services and employees into one location, greatly minimizing the cost of leasing space in multiple locations.
- The original design proposal called for a peak height of 320 feet, but it did not pass FAA approval due to the building's proximity to the airport's flight path.
- Tallest building in San Jose.
- The glass-domed public gallery is 110 feet high.
